Royal Mansour: the unclassifiable

The driveway is lined with sublime century-old olive trees, and then you pass through a monumental gate reminiscent of those in Moroccan imperial cities. A groom dressed all in red greets us. You’d think you were in a film, yet it’s all very real. Right in the heart of Marrakech’s medina lies an extraordinary hotel: the Royal Mansour. Opened in 2010, this establishment has no equivalent in the “red city”, and perhaps not even in Morocco. Here’s why…

The Royal Mansour comprises 53 luxury riads set in a replica of the medina. The place is unique! All riads are built on three levels, with a living room, one or two bedrooms with marble bathrooms and a terrace with a refreshing pool. The elite of Moroccan craftsmen and women were involved in the construction of the place. It’s a showcase for the country’s savoir-faire. We admire the perfect precision of the zelliges and the softness of the tadelakts.
Jean-Pierre Chaumart: the key man
He is the hotel’s General Manager. Having directed and built the reputation of the Royal Palm in Mauritius for 20 years, he has become a benchmark in the world of luxury. He has provided the impetus to make the Royal Mansour an exceptional hotel. He defines it as ” a place like no other. A hotel that is bound to attract those seeking refinement, elegance and discreet luxury. .”
More than 500 people work at the Royal Mansour. Needless to say, with such a ratio, customers are pampered. What’s even more astonishing is the silence in which the premises are bathed, despite the profusion of staff who remain invisible. The stewardship department is actually located in the basement. The staff have direct access to your riad through a back door. A must!
La Grande Table Marocaine, which we were able to test, is an enchanting place. We admire the ballet of the waiters, who perform an almost choreographed routine, so precise and impeccable is everything. We’re delighted with the assortment of Moroccan salads. The tajines are divine. The Ourika Valley strawberry salad is delicious. No false notes. Yannick Alleno, a three-starred chef, supervised the menu and returns regularly throughout the year. The dishes are extremely refined. We succumb! Customers of the nearby Mamounia have understood this and flock to this place of Moroccan haute gastronomy. La Grande Table Francaise, the gourmet restaurant, is also a reference.

A sublime Spa
The Spa stands in stark contrast to the rest of the hotel. The purity of its white tones makes it a little paradise. The team of specialists welcomes guests and works out a personalized program with them before directing them to the various treatments. The swimming pool adjacent to the spa is also well worth a visit. Set beneath an immense glass roof, it’s an invitation to relax.

The Royal Mansour is an experience. A unique moment of grace that you remember for the rest of your life. The return to the real world is violent.
