ACNE PREFALL 2013

The start of this new collection? An exhibition of self-portraits by Sweden’s August Strindberg. An integral part of Swedish culture, Strindberg had never before been the subject of ACNE’s attention. But when Jonny Johansson saw these self-portraits, he was instantly captivated. Strindberg was a multi-faceted, eccentric and controversial artist, well known for his writings, songs and paintings. His image is very strong and inspiring, and the designer found it interesting to use the image of a strong man to create a lookbook for women. ACNE wanted to redefine the wardrobe of its previous collections. To offer a perspective on key pieces such as the trench coat, the parka (right on trend for winter 2012/13), and the little black dress. Working on cuts and creating new volumes had become interesting ways of redefining them. The result? Graphic, multi-layered, geometric silhouettes. A masculine touch emanates from the collection, not only for the natural materials used, such as fluffy boiled wool, double-faced cotton or turned-skin, but also and above all for the shades used, which perfectly represent the Swedish winter.
