Chapal is a French, family-run company now in its 6th generation. What sets this brand apart is that it has no boutiques in France.

Tanners of rabbit skins, they own 3 factories in the U.S. (they designed the uniforms worn by U.S. Army pilots, as well as the helmet worn by Lindbergh on his famous Atlantic crossing), 1 in France and 1 in the UK. The tannery and all design and manufacturing processes are carried out in the Creuse region*.

These are primarily men’s collections, but the company has tended to reposition itself on more mixed cuts, keeping a masculine spirit, but it’s no problem to find bags with feminine cuts.

These garments are inspired by the spirit of aviators, all in leather or sheepskin. The company’s aim is to dress from head to toe.

Of particular note are the leather mosaic clutches, which for me remain the house’s signature pieces.
