SHADOWLAND
The Folies Bergères thrill to every performance of ShadowLand. The Philobolus company excels in its ability to move and astonish spectators. Far beyond mere performance, the superb team creates a phantasmagoria into which they invite us to transport ourselves. On the cusp of dance, circus and mime, in a subtle and delicate interplay of light and shadow, the exploration begins. The script evokes the passage from adolescence to adulthood through the peregrinations of a young girl. Steven Banks, creator of SpongeBob SquarePants, wrote the libretto, and David Poe composed the score. Inner worlds and alluring unknowns emerge in the tumultuous dreams of this night of metamorphosis. Illusions of the mind, visual illusions, they become tangible in projected shadows, vibrant and magnetic. Revealing her animal side, the little girl molts, and ultimately imposes her Being.
