Nearly 2,500 invitations were printed for this “rentrée littéraire” event, which took place at the Flagship Virgin on the Champs Elysées.
And the entire press and publishing world turned out en masse. Many of the writers on the shortlist made the trip, including Vanessa Schneider, who was all tanned and obviously didn’t have to spend her vacations in France.
Scoop of the evening: the announcement by Jean-Louis Raynard, Chairman of the Board of Virgin Stores, of the opening of a 5th Virgin store in Paris, to be located in St Lazare. Inauguration scheduled for early 2012. François Busnel, Editorial Director of Lire, as elegant as ever, is proud to be taking part in the creation of a back-to-school guide in partnership with Virgin.
Finally came the long-awaited moment of awarding the prize, and the evening’s big winner was John Burnside for Scintillation, published by Métaillée
This was followed by a well-balanced cocktail party, which brought this back-to-school evening to a pleasant close.
