Milan’s SDA Bocconi School of Management is launching the second edition of its international competition for young entrepreneurs wishing to enter the fashion and luxury sectors. The challenge, open until May 30, will reward the most innovative ideas. A fashion management course in Milan will be offered to the winners.

Creativity, hard work and intuition are some of the key ingredients needed to launch a new product in the fashion industry.
Anyone with an idea in mind can now submit their project to the second edition of the “Business Idea Competition in Fashion: starting up a new company”, launched by the SDA Bocconi management school.
The winners will then have the right to attend a free intensive course on the Bocconi campus in Milan, focusing on strategy and branding with a view to launching one’s own business in the fashion, luxury and creative sectors. Each participant will receive personalized advice and suggestions for improving their project.

Participation in the competition is open to individuals or groups of up to 3 people, and will reward the 15 most innovative and financially viable projects. To participate, a business plan must be submitted, including a detailed description of the project, financing and the candidate’s curriculum vitae. A short video presenting the project is also welcome. Registration can be made directly on the school’s e-platform before May 30.

“After last year’s positive experience, we’re expecting even greater participation this year. We’re not just looking for new designers or new products, but fresh, innovative ideas,” explains Elisabeth Marafioti, professor of strategy at SDA Bocconi and coordinator of the initiative.
The 2010 edition of the Business Idea Competition in Fashion had a truly international dimension: 50% of the participants were Italian, with the remainder coming from the USA, Peru, France, Russia and Morocco.
“With this competition, the winners will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the fashion world and strengthen their management skills. This will enable them to consolidate their professional project and propose it to potential investors”

The winners will be selected by two professors from SDA Bocconi and a professional from the private equity sector. On July 12 and 13, the 15 winners will have free access to an intensive course offered by SDA Bocconi in Milan. Taught by professors from the Master in Fashion Experience and Design Management program, the course will feature case studies and presentations by industry executives. Participants will be able to keep abreast of the latest industry trends and learn a few tricks of the trade in terms of strategy, branding and business planning, all of which are necessary for setting up a business in this field.

This initiative is part of the “Milano Summer School” scheme launched by the Milan City Council, which involves a group of Milan universities and schools offering summer courses for international students.
In the same spirit, the SDA Bocconi will be launching a Business Game on gastronomy in early May, with the chance to take part in an intensive course on the subject.
