On Monday May 9, 2011 at Drouot Richelieu, the voluntary auction house Gros & Delettrez, assisted by the appraisal firm Chombert Sternbach, will be holding a major auction featuring Louis Vuitton leather goods, travel trunks and fashion accessories.
The sale will feature around 400 lots, including many of the brand’s “Iconic” handbags. From the same collection, the famous Speedy, Alma, Trouville, Deauville, Noé, Trocadéro, Saint Cloud or Saint Jacques models will stand out… An Ambassadeur satchel in monogrammed canvas will stand alongside a rare Speedy bag in silver monogrammed leather, estimated at €1,100 / €1,200; while a blue grained leather “SC” bag, designed by Sofia Coppola, will be estimated at €1,200 / €1,400. The series of bags will be completed by wallets, purses, diaries and card holders in taiga leather, cob leather, monogram canvas or checkerboard canvas…
Part of the sale will be devoted to the theme of travel, with luggage, travel bags and trunks. These include a range of travel bags, Keepall models in different sizes (55 and 60 cm), Polochon and Alizée models, large LV monogrammed canvas garment bags, Stea- merbags and various shoe bags…
Suitcases, both soft and hard, will be represented by Bisten, Airbus, Alzer, Vanity and Sirius models. Among the trunks, a Champs Elysées green leather suitcase, embellished with cut crystal bottles and silver stoppers, will be auctioned for an estimated €1,000.
An important Avenue des Champs Elysées wardrobe trunk in stenciled mono- gram canvas will be estimated at €10,000 / €12,000. A number of antique “cabine” trunks will also feature in the sale, with estimates ranging from €2,000 to €3,000.
A rue Scribe mail trunk in orange Vuittonite, in perfect condition, is estimated at €5,000 / €6,000, while an antique mail trunk in beige and brown striped canvas is estimated at €4,000. Finally, an elegant hat trunk is estimated at €2,000 / €2,500.
A stencilled, monogrammed canvas case forming a portable bar for two bottles of Gin, a special order for an American customer in the early 1960s, will fetch from €3,500 / €4,500.
A set of photographs attributed to the Seeberger brothers, depicting the various windows and interiors of the Avenue Marceau boutique, with Monsieur Gaston Louis Vuitton, his sons and craftsmen at work, will also be offered for sale.
Finally, the vacation will close with a rare hunting knife, a gift from Gaston Louis Vuitton to one of his friends, as well as men’s and women’s clothing.
