GUCCI WATCHES AND JEWELRY ANNOUNCES NEW PRESERVATION PROGRAM WITH RECORDING ACADEMY® AND GRAMMY MUSEUM® IN BASEL

An exclusive collaboration to preserve one of the most important musical discoveries of recent years.
Building on a three-year partnership strengthened by the successful launch of the Gucci GRAMMY® watch and jewelry collection, Gucci and the Recording Academy® are now joining forces to help preserve one of the most important musical discoveries of recent years.
The GRAMMY Museum®, based at L.A. Live, is currently spearheading an initiative to appraise a Muzak archive recently discovered in a South Carolina warehouse. This archive includes over 20,000 never-before-released original recordings of American music dating from 1934, ranging from jazz to early spirituals. Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry is the first partner to support the GRAMMY Museum® in preserving this historic musical discovery. This initiative will determine the best way to archive, digitize and ultimately disseminate this collection to the general public.
“It’s incredible that a whole swath of never-before-released American music has been discovered in this way. It is truly an honor to contribute to the dissemination of these recordings and the telling of their story,” said Bob Santelli, Executive Director of the GRAMMY Museum®. “Gucci’s preservation initiatives in other areas, such as film restoration, reflect the GRAMMY Museum®’s policy of celebrating the history of music. We are delighted to be working with the Gucci team on this important project.
Gucci Watches & Jewelry and the Recording Academy will present this exciting new project in Basel, as part of a traveling exhibition featuring interactive workshops and pieces straight from the GRAMMY Museum® to raise awareness of the program to protect and preserve music. Recording Academy CEO Neil Portnow and Bob Santelli will join Gucci CEO Patrizio Di Marco and Gucci Watches and Jewelry President Michele Sofisti to announce the new collaboration.
