Finally, the most awaited event of the month of May started on May 12, 2010: the Cannes Film Festival and its glamour where the biggest stars compete in elegance and shine with a thousand lights for our greatest pleasure!

For 12 days, no fashion faux-pas will be forgiven when they walk the famous red carpet in front of the crackling flashes of the photographers.

Despite the gray and low temperatures, the opening ceremony of the 63rd Cannes Film Festival was an opportunity to admire a shower of diamonds during the traditional ascent of the steps that preceded the screening of the film “Robin Hood” by British Ridley Scott.

Here is our list of the elegance of this ceremony.

The Golden Palm of elegance is awarded unanimously to Eva Longoria, beautiful in a white dress in silk chiffon Emilio Pucci accompanied by a set of diamonds jeweler de Grisogono. And to sublimate her outfit, she chose the “So Posh” clutch by Swarovski. Aishwarya Rai, meanwhile, preferred the “Power Bag” to accompany a lavender dress powdered Lebanese designer Elie Saab.

The Grand Prize goes to Sarah Marshall who wore a Lumière Necklace from the Montblanc Haute Joaillerie Collection, a necklace composed of 3050 Briolette diamonds and a 12 carat Montblanc Diamond. She also chose earrings from the Montblanc Diamond Eclat Collection of 2.5 carats each. Swarovski’s “Dream Box” was the perfect piece to finish off a formal outfit. Jean-Claude Jitrois, his knight in shining armor, wore a Montblanc TimeWalker watch.

The award for Best Actress goes to Salma Hayek’s impeccable figure, highlighted by a beautiful asymmetrical burgundy dress in silk georgette by Gucci Couture.

The Jury Prize goes to Cate Blanchett who pays divine homage to the genius of Alexander MacQueen, in a tulle and silk dress from the Spring Summer 2010 collection, completed with a Van Cleef & Arpels set.

Julie Gayet wears the Rivière 101 jewelry watch by Jaeger-LeCoultre, the only accessory conceded to her red halter dress.

The House of Chopard, which has a real love affair with the Cannes Film Festival and is about to celebrate its 150th anniversary, has obviously seduced many of our stars like the mistress of ceremony Kristin Scott Thomas, imperious in Armani Privé. She enhanced her outfit with a pair of 72 carat platinum and diamond earrings, a white gold and diamond ring and a beautiful platinum and diamond bracelet.

Kate Beckinsale, member of the jury, chose a white gold and diamond ring and earrings to accompany her Marchesa tulle dress. Helen Mirren, always elegant and faithful to the House of Chopard, fell for a 14-carat white gold and diamond ring that she accompanied with two majestic platinum and diamond bracelets.

The rare Nathalie Imbruglia in Alberta Ferreti chose a long platinum and diamond chain worn as a bracelet with a white gold ring set with a diamond weighing 77 carats.

And let’s salute the elegance of the couple Danielle Spencer and Russel Crowe, in Giorgio Armani, at the post-screening party of the movie “Robin Hood” at the Majestic Barrière.

This 63rd festival is already shaping up to be a great vintage. So many stars from the opening ceremony.

To be continued!
