On July 8, the famous German fashion house presented its Spring/Summer 2011 collection in the wonderful setting of Gleisdreieck Park in the heart of Berlin. The fashion show was held under giant white tents housing a 45-meter-long catwalk. More than 1,000 people were invited to discover Graeme Black’s creations, including Olivia Palermo, Ewan McGregor and Jessica Alba, who all competed in the beauty of their BOSS Black outfits.
Led by over 30 international models, the show is a reflection on the theme « Summer Seascape ». Jessica Stam, Katrin Thormann and Lars Burmeister, the current face of the BOSS Black campaign, made us want to look forward to next summer, so delighted were we by the collection presented.
Both classic and elegant, this new collection has a fresh touch. Long, flowing dresses in the colors of coral and the sea embrace the curves of a body in motion. Draped, elegant and pure, these dresses sublimate the models and seem to be one with them. Among them is this magnificent Bleu Klein gown, reminiscent of djellabas. Bohemian and chic, this dress is one of those we love to wear on hot summer days. Both hypnotizing and energizing, this distinctive deep ultramarine blue is one of the few colors that stands on its own. This aesthetically pleasing monochrome energizes the collection and soothes us with its invigorating harmony.
Closer to the body, some dresses emphasize curves instead of drawing them. For example, a short dress in a golden color reminiscent of the warmth of sand, adorned with a row of gold-colored embroidery, reveals long legs. A second, longer gray dress, entirely covered with delicately interlaced metal rings, transforms the model into a mermaid, a dangerous divinity of the sea, revealing the sculptural body she adorns.
It’s also through the cut of the garments and the jewelry, undeniably reminiscent of underwater flora, that BOSS Black manages to breathe a certain freshness into more classic, chic, even urban outfits. A black dress with an unstructured, pleated collar is enhanced by a necklace of white and red coral. Strict pants, also in black, are softened by a loose pink blouse and coral jewels.
Both blouses and skirts are draped in new ways, combining deconstruction and sometimes nonchalance, but the result is always the same: suppleness and voluptuousness.
The men’s wardrobe is also influenced by this aquatic theme, but in a very sober and refined way. Navy blue, sky blue and white are favored, even if some suits are made from the most elegant pink fabrics. At once chic and surprisingly casual, these suits seem paradoxically to be the ideal summer wear.
In addition to soft, fresh colors, stripes of varying sizes will soften silhouettes and give them a summery feel, which should be duly complemented by a few accessories. Sunglasses, moccasins and a soft leather bag will be summer essentials.
With a collection that’s fresh, energetic yet elegant and refined, BOSS Black has got us looking forward to next summer. But let’s not rush things, and take advantage of the few months of sunshine left to explore the riches of the deep sea, this time for real.
