Tiffany & Co. celebrates the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory in Super Bowl® LVIII, highlighting the brand’s iconic role in the creation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, the ultimate symbol of achievement in American soccer. Since its first design for Super Bowl® I in 1967, the trophy has become a staple of the sport, honoring the memory of legendary coach Vince Lombardi since 1970.
The genesis of this trophy goes back to a sketch made on a napkin by Oscar Riedener, then vice-president of Tiffany & Co. during a meeting with Pete Rozelle, the NFL® commissioner at the time. This initial drawing, depicting a football in play position, laid the foundations for a design that would become a timeless symbol of sporting glory.
The creation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy is entrusted to Tiffany & Co.’s most skilled craftsmen, whose expertise and passion drive every step of the manufacturing process. Crafted in sterling silver, the seven-pound, 22-inch-high trophy is the result of 72 hours of meticulous work, spread over four months. The manufacture of this objet d’art employs traditional techniques and advanced technologies, from goldsmithing to engraving and hand polishing, underlining Tiffany & Co.’s commitment to excellence.
Handcrafted each year in the brand’s hollowware workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island, the Vince Lombardi Trophy is one of more than 100 trophies that Tiffany & Co. designs for various sporting disciplines, each a testament to the brand’s deep connection to sport’s most prestigious moments.
The Kansas City Chiefs’ victory at Super Bowl® LVIII adds a new chapter to the history of this legendary trophy, reinforcing the prestige and heritage of Tiffany & Co. in the world of sport. The brand continues to celebrate excellence and to position itself as a major player in the recognition of sporting achievement around the world.
