From September 5 to 7, Brussels celebrates the Comic Book Festival. A not-to-be-missed event for afficionados of this medium. The theme of this fourth edition will be ‘When reality invites itself into comics’. A tangible reminder of the diversity of the public. Children, teenagers and adults alike will be enthusiastic about their favorite heroes and authors.

FESTIVAL 2

Le Parc de Bruxelles will feature a host of speakers. Authors, booksellers, publishers – in short, a top-quality panel to enhance encounters with the public. Animations, workshops and conferences are scheduled. The latter will very often have a direct link with Turkey, the guest of honor. An introduction to Turkish comics, but also targeted approaches, such as an evocation of social conflicts and war. To highlight this point, RTBF reporter Pascale Bourgaux’s ‘Les larmes du seigneur afghan’ will serve as a reference. Developed in collaboration with scriptwriter Zabus and illustrator Campi, the comic evokes an Afghan village, its arduous daily life, and the approach of a great reporter in action.

Exhibitions organized in partnership with various museums and major Belgian publishing houses will captivate attention. Animated events complete the playful atmosphere.

FESTIVAL BD 4

This event is accompanied by two major exhibitions at the Belgian Comic Strip Center.

FESTIVAL

One of them, L’invention de la BD, evokes the first steps of this medium and focuses on some Belgian authors. The second, The Art of Comics, will reveal the diversity of comics in Europe. Original drawings and documents will support the presentation.
