Glenmorangie launches the 3rd edition of its « The Cadboll Estate » collection, a single malt crafted « from field to glass », revealing the taste and richness of the terroir of Scotland’s Highlands region. This new limited edition, aged for 15 years, enriches the aromatic palette of the collection and reflects the flavors and terroir of the region in a subtly different way.
The rural village of Cadboll, close to the distillery on the picturesque Easter Ross peninsula, is dotted with fields of barley. It was from here that Glenmorangie’s Creative Director, Dr. Bill Lumsden, drew inspiration to bring out the very essence of the brand’s native lands in a single-vineyard whisky. The barley is planted and harvested according to Dr. Bill Lumsden’s recommendations, then milled and distilled in Glenmorangie’s huge copper stills to create a unique spirit.
To enrich this new whisky, Dr. Bill Lumsden wanted to add notes of nuts and spices. With these flavors in mind, he first selected a spirit from two separate barley harvests, then aged it in American oak bourbon casks to enhance these deep, creamy flavors. Later, inspired by notes of hazelnut, caramel and clove, he extended the maturation of one batch in casks that had previously contained Amontillado, his favorite sherry. It was only after 15 years that he brought these whiskies together, giving birth to this 3rd edition, which marries notes of caramel and spice with those of honeysuckle, peach and cream.
The 3rd edition of Glenmorangie The Cadboll Estate whisky is chill-filtered and bottled at 43% alcohol. This limited edition is characterized by a deep ochre color and a fragrance with hints of honey, hazelnut, tangerine and sweet caramel, which reveals itself in the top notes enhanced by ripe sweet barley and oven-roasted peaches. The mouthfeel leads to an explosion of sweet and spicy flavors, such as heather honey, gingerbread, hazelnut praline, caramel, toffee and a touch of clove. The hazelnut flavor derived from Amontillado’s casks is always present, integrating delicately with the other sweeter flavors. The lingering finish features hints of marzipan and coconut, but also hints of fruitcake.
