The Paris commercial court (tribunal des activit\u00e9s \u00e9conomiques) is due to rule on Monday 2 November at 3 p.m. on whether to place BHV in receivership, according to AFP following the hearing of 30 October. Management had first announced a filing in Lyon; the dispatch states that it ultimately did not file its application there and turned to Paris. As of 1 November, the decision is therefore still pending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A dispute between operator and landlord<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to AFP, management attributes part of its difficulties to the non-payment of compensation provided for in return for the handing back of floor space. Brookfield, the owner of the premises, disputes that it owes these sums: the landlord considers that the contractual conditions for the handing back have not been met.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These opposing positions do not allow responsibility to be determined. They nonetheless show how far the transformation of a department store depends on its property timetable. Reducing floor space, redeveloping the retained areas and financing inventory are linked operations, but each requires distinct resources and commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Journal du Luxe recalls the late payments of which suppliers have complained and the departures of brands. These difficulties bear directly on the commercial proposition: to give people a reason to return, a store must be able to present an offer that is available and renewed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A recovery plan must therefore combine financing with the relationship with brands. The address and the memory of the place are assets; they replace neither supply nor the trust of partners. To assess what follows, it will be necessary to look at the court decisions, the financial commitments and how they translate into activity. The announcement of 27 October opens this sequence without yet giving its outcome.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
