With Sea Salt & Bergamot, the house this time chooses to immerse itself, quite literally, in wilder water — without renouncing the freshness that has become its signature in this segment.

The comparison with Wood Sage & Sea Salt is not trivial; the house itself formulates it, implicitly, in the way it presents its novelty. Where the first fragrance evoked a windswept shore — an airy scene, almost terrestrial despite the salt — Sea Salt & Bergamot claims an entirely different posture: that of immersion. The semantic shift, from the shore to the water itself, says something quite precise about how a perfume house chooses to develop an olfactory territory that made its success, without ever quite leaving it.

Composed by perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui, the fragrance builds its architecture around three tight movements: bergamot at the top, sea salt at the heart, driftwood at the base. This economy of notes — far from the multifaceted pyramids that niche perfumery sometimes favours — joins a constant of the Jo Malone London style, in which clarity takes precedence over layering. The driftwood, in particular, plays an anchoring role: a material that the sea itself has shaped, sanded, bleached, it brings the composition back to something tangible, almost tactile, after the more volatile brightness of the bergamot.

Jo Malone London has built part of its identity on the practice of fragrance combining — the art of layering several of the house’s colognes to compose a personal trail. Sea Salt & Bergamot fits naturally into this game of construction: its saline freshness and generous bergamot make it a base available for other layerings, rather than a fragrance designed to be worn in isolation. It is a way for the house to offer a novelty that enriches an entire existing olfactive wardrobe rather than an isolated piece.

The stated inspiration — the wild beauty of the British coast — belongs to a well-identified tradition of English perfumery, which long drew on island landscapes rather than cultivated gardens to build its olfactive identity. The return to this coastal imaginary is, moreover, not unique to Jo Malone London: for several seasons, Western perfumery has multiplied rereadings of northern shores, as if marine freshness had become a sought-after antidote to a more gourmand and enveloping perfumery that otherwise dominates. Sea Salt & Bergamot joins this movement while nuancing it: the Celtic Sea it summons is not soothing in the literal sense, it is described as exhilarating, almost inhabited by the movement of a wave rather than by a flat calm.

Visually, the house keeps the cream and black codes that have always identified its Cologne range, refusing any overly emphatic thematic dressing around the marine motif. This is a constant at Jo Malone London: let the name and the composition tell the story, rather than highlight it with illustrative packaging.

Available from August 2026 in boutiques and on jomalone.fr at a price of 150 euros for 100 ml, Sea Salt & Bergamot does not seek to replace its elder, but to open, on the same coastal territory, a second door — deeper, more immersed. It remains to be seen which of the two ways of approaching the sea, the wind or the wave, will hold more lastingly the attention of a public already largely won over to the house’s marine imaginary.

Since the launch of Wood Sage & Sea Salt, a best-seller built on the image of a windswept shore, Jo Malone London had never really left the coast.
