There is the Costa Navarino of summer, with its beaches and sun-drenched greens. And there is, less talked about, its autumn season \u2014 the one the destination in the south-west Peloponnese has chosen to put forward this year with the launch of a new route: the Messinia Trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When mild weather follows the summer heat and the beaches regain their calm, the destination writes, Messinia reveals another face: softer temperatures, landscapes explored at a slower pace, a hinterland that at last reveals the richness of a preserved territory. The Messinia Trail is its most concrete expression. Through historic paths, mountain terrain, olive groves, villages and ancient sites, this route links Agia Theodora Vasta to Gialova via ancient Messene and the Byzantine monastery of Andromonastiro, then returns to the coast at the Palace of Nestor, the olive groves and Voidokilia Bay, before reaching the Gialova lagoon and the Ionian Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond walking, Costa Navarino extends this same philosophy of slowness through cycling, which winds between olive groves, hills and villages, outdoor tennis at the Mouratoglou Tennis Center, and the destination’s four 18-hole golf courses. Autumn is also the olive harvest season: travellers can take part in the picking, discover the stages of production and taste Navarino Icons extra virgin olive oil, accompanied by local specialities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greek mythology also joins the experience, with a new route called the Messinian Odyssey Trail: an adventure in six stages punctuated by riddles, from the Palace of Nestor to Voidokilia beach and its Cave of Nestor, designed for families and extended for children at the SandCastle Kids’ Club. For adults seeking a more contemplative rhythm, a philosophical walk called Echoes of Odyssey, led by a professor of ancient Greek literature, invites dialogue around heroism, the quest for meaning and the return home \u2014 the nostos of the Odyssey revisited through the Messinian countryside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two addresses host this autumn interlude: The Westin Resort Costa Navarino, designed for families with its connecting suites and a water park with six slides, and The Romanos, a Luxury Collection Resort, more oriented towards intimacy and personalised service, with a selection of seafront villas and suites ensuring individual attention for each stay. Both share Navarino Dunes and the same view over the Ionian Sea, while deliberately addressing distinct audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This shift of the cursor, from the seaside summer to a more contemplative autumn, also reflects a broader trend in the Mediterranean hotel sector, where destinations now seek to occupy their infrastructure beyond the high-season months alone. By betting on walking, mythology and local gastronomy rather than the beach alone, Costa Navarino is trying to convince that a traveller can find, off-season, an experience as rich as that of summer \u2014 provided they accept changing its rhythm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
