There are those who dream of holidays and those who, at the first sign of swell, abandon their desks and rush to the water. The House of J.SIMONE devotes its Spring\/Summer 2027 collection, called Uluwatu, to this second category, presented on the rooftop of the Bonnie in Paris, after the success of a previous summer collaboration at the SO\/ Paris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The imagery summoned is that of 1970s surfing, that golden age when the discipline became democratised, radicalised, and turned into a language in its own right. A sunlit era, driven by a desire for emancipation, when every board was shaped in the image of the person riding it: bold colours, free motifs, singular forms. For enthusiasts, the House explains, surfing never really leaves the back of the mind, and the ocean always ends up spilling into everyday life, even if it means swapping a suit for a wetsuit in a car park, sheltering as best one can behind a towel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is precisely this in-between moment that J.SIMONE dresses: an intimate moment of transition, when one spontaneously chooses to reveal or to cover up, when the corporate environment of work meets the free one of the ocean. From this meeting comes a hybrid wardrobe. The surf T-shirt lengthens until it becomes a dress and meets a tie, as if the office refused to disappear behind the call of the waves. The beach towel, accomplice of improvised changes, becomes a garment in its own right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The collection is enriched by a collaboration with T&C, an emblematic figure of surf culture, around two complete looks and a board designed especially for the occasion, a way of anchoring the wardrobe still more firmly in the visual heritage of the discipline. The accessories extend this universe through a collaboration with Domestique. True to its humour, the House subverts the most expected symbols of surfing, namely shark teeth, hibiscus, palm trees, wax and bodysurf fins, to compose a genuine starter pack, offbeat and reinvented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This use of humour and subversion is not neutral in an industry where surf inspiration most often results in a straight-faced aesthetic, between tropical prints and literal references to the 1970s. By choosing to treat these symbols as a vocabulary to be reassembled rather than quoted as they stand, J.SIMONE sets itself apart from seasonal collections that regularly summon summer without ever asking what it really represents for those who live it daily rather than on holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The materials follow the movement: viscose, bamboo and mesh play with the body, sometimes revealed, sometimes only guessed at. Some pieces even conceal what they cover: a closed dress hints at the calm immensity of the ocean; once opened, it reveals a woman surfer followed by a shark, a game of unveiling that alone sums up the tension the House seeks between modesty and exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The choice of venue is not insignificant either: by again taking over a Parisian rooftop after a first summer collaboration at the SO\/ Paris, J.SIMONE builds a recurring geography for its presentations, in which the capital’s skyline takes the place, for the length of a show, of the sea horizon that it otherwise summons in its clothes. A way of turning Paris itself into a seaside backdrop by proxy, rather than seeking the authenticity of a real surf spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Uluwatu, J.SIMONE offers not so much an escape as an openly acknowledged compromise: leaving the corporate everyday on the beach, without ever quite leaving it behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
