What does a garment look like when time ceases to be a season and becomes a material? For spring-summer 2027, Emporio Armani answers with surfaces that seem to have been crossed, creased, washed or mineralised. The point is not a reconstituted wear: it seeks to give the textile a visible memory.

The collection, designed by Silvana Armani and Leo Dell’Orco, is titled Traces of Time. It builds its vocabulary from salt crystals, used both as a treatment and as embroidery, from acid washes and cold dyeing. Linen imitates, in trompe-l’œil, the surface of garments already worn; seersucker is hollowed out and creased, while laser-treated velvet becomes flecked.

Time as a textile gesture

Salt is the most eloquent material of this proposal. It preserves and corrodes, decorates and consumes: Emporio Armani uses it to give the collection its ambiguity. The trace is neither nostalgia nor an added flaw. It becomes a way of shifting the appearance of the garment, keeping its structure while disturbing its surface.

This research continues in the layered organzas, the play of reflections and the touches of lurex that interrupt the opacity of the narrative. Nothing is presented as a natural patina: the effects are manufactured, acknowledged as such, and that is precisely what makes them legible.

A wardrobe that refuses the hierarchy of genders

Emporio Armani has long described its wardrobe as a place of circulation between masculine and feminine, formal and informal. This season, jackets sometimes lose their construction or let panels and knots run through them. Trousers become lighter; knits evoke the intimacy of underwear; the codes pass from one wardrobe to the other without resolving into an abstract neutrality.

The materials give the line: linen, light silks, shirting fabrics, viscose and jersey draw weightless silhouettes. Lightening does not, however, mean the absence of tailoring. It allows movement to remain precise, where traditional tailoring would first seek to impose a shape.

Colour at the threshold of black

The palette favours irregular neutrals before arriving at black. This chromatic path accompanies the surfaces rather than dominating them. Oversized bags, rope or fabric slippers and small headwear complete the silhouettes without altering the main subject: the way the material records the passage of time.

The collection does not offer an illusion of ageing. It rather makes time a tool of composition. This is an essential distinction: the trace has value here only because it remains tied to the hand, the treatment and the decision of form.
