Marrakech’s Dar el Bacha was not a tea room. In 1910, it was a place of confluence where traders, diplomats and intellectuals met over Arabica coffee \u2014 the only variety permitted in these salons. Bacha Coffee has made this its doctrine: one hundred and fifteen years later, its selection of single-origin coffees rests on that same botanical requirement, expressed across around fifteen terroirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why now?<\/em>The rise of specialty coffee in Europe has made visible what historic trading houses already practised: origin traceability, considered roasting profiles and seasonal harvests. Active in more than sixty countries, Bacha Coffee is opening its first European addresses in this context \u2014 not as a trend, but as a return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand Moka Matari, Yemen.<\/strong>This is perhaps the selection’s most documented coffee. Yemen is one of the origins of cultivated Arabica coffee: coffee trees on the high plateaux of the Bani Matar region grow between 1,500 and 2,200 metres above sea level, in dry cultivation without artificial irrigation. The resulting cup offers light acidity, a full body and notes of apricot, dark chocolate and dates, with a caramel-and-spice finish. An aromatic structure found in few origins worldwide. Available in 250 grams at \u20ac112, packed in a clasped tin from the Signature Nomad collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crossroads set, 600 grams.<\/strong>Four origins \u2014 Danu Gold<\/em> (South-East Asia), Flores del Caf\u00e9 Superior<\/em> (Central America), Java Blue<\/em> (Indonesia, island of Java), Caribbean Mountain<\/em> \u2014 in medium, medium-light and medium-dark roasts. The interest of this set is not diversity for its own sake, but the demonstration that the aromatic profile varies according to the latitude of cultivation, degree of roasting and post-harvest processing method. \u20ac84.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expedition into the Oasis.<\/strong> Four 150-gram tins in red-and-gold cases: Happy Gianduja<\/em> (chocolate-hazelnut notes), Sweet Mexico<\/em>, Marrakech Morning<\/em>, Baraka Decaffeinated<\/em>. Arabica: one botany, thousands of terroirs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica<\/em>) represents around 60% of global production. Its cultivation requires altitudes between 600 and 2,200 metres, temperatures between 15 and 24 degrees, precise rainfall and no frost. These climatic constraints explain the concentration of production in Ethiopia, Yemen, Colombia, Kenya and Central America. Bourbon, Typica and Geisha varieties all belong to this botanical group, yet their aromatic profiles diverge according to soil, altitude and processing method.
