Mount Gay Exceptionally Aged: Barbados at its limits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mount Gay distillery is the world’s oldest rum distillery still in operation \u2014 a fact often repeated without weighing what it really means. It means that, since the seventeenth century, people have chosen to keep making rum where others might have given up. A form of stubbornness that resurfaces in the two expressions of the Exceptionally Aged collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 15-year-old rum reveals notes of Barbadian molasses refined by time \u2014 gentle spices, candied fruit, and a finish that young spirit cannot imitate. The 25-year-old goes further: distillation recedes and the island speaks. Hautes Glaces Cask #1555: sixty bottles from a 2016 harvest<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Hautes Glaces distillery, set in the Alpine Tri\u00e8ves, is one of the few to produce mountain whisky in France. Cask #1555 is anything but a stylistic exercise: it is Caroass-variety rye, harvested in 2016 on the Vulson climate, first matured in a seasoned Cognac cask, then transferred for more than three years into a former Sauternes cask numbered 1555.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is a conversation between two traditions \u2014 the smoky, spicy liveliness of rye and the mellow, liqueur-like sweetness of Sauternes. Sixty bottles. Each can be engraved on request. This is not a gimmick: it acknowledges that something so confidential deserves to be named.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delord is a house Armagnac lovers know, without always being able to explain why it has endured where others have disappeared. The answer is simple: Delord does not seek to impress. It seeks to be right. The 20-year-old Armagnac is a reference in the primary sense of the word \u2014 a landmark, a benchmark for what a Gascon eau-de-vie should be after two decades of maturation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
