Having joined Guerlain in 2000, following an already distinguished career at Givenchy, Olivier Echaudemaison was not stepping into unfamiliar territory. The house at 68 Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es bore the mark of generations of perfumers and designers for whom color was never an accessory but a signature. We owe her two reinventions that have become classics of the genre: KissKiss, redesigned in 2005 in collaboration with designer Herv\u00e9 Van der Straeten, and Rouge G, reimagined in 2009 with jeweler Lorenz B\u00e4umer around its now-iconic double mirror. Two objects in which beauty is not limited to the formula but extends to the very act of opening them, looking into them, and choosing a color as one would choose a piece of jewelry. For more than two decades, Olivier Echaudemaison turned his lens on some of the most photographed faces in the world\u2014from Jackie Kennedy to Grace of Monaco\u2014working alongside the greatest fashion designers and photographers of his time. His art was discreet, almost invisible in its intended effect: to give each woman not a mask, but a more confident version of herself. In 2019, France honored him with the title of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters\u2014a belated but well-deserved recognition of a career marked by excellence without fanfare.<\/p>\n\n

He left Guerlain in 2025, after a quarter-century with the house. What remains of his legacy is not a name engraved on a package, but a way of understanding beauty as a relational art: between the material and the gesture, between the color and the person wearing it.
