Then there are those that seek to create a dialogue between two intricate mechanisms: that of an engine and that of a movement, that of a high-performance car and that of a watch conceived as a miniature work of architecture. With UltraFino Maserati, Maserati and Bianchet have clearly chosen the latter path. <\/p>\n\n

Unveiled at the 2026 Watches and Wonders fair in Geneva, this limited-edition Flying Tourbillon watch celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Trident, an emblem inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna and first featured on the Tipo 26, which won the Targa Florio. Produced in a limited run of just 100 numbered pieces, the UltraFino Maserati aims to translate into the language of watchmaking what Maserati has embodied since its inception: the fusion of performance, Italian elegance, and a certain dramatic tension in form. <\/p>\n\n

The collaboration with Bianchet is anything but trivial. Rooted in a shared fascination with balance, precision, and mechanical beauty, it brings together Modena and Neuch\u00e2tel\u2014two regions where technical objects can never be satisfied with mere efficiency. Maserati, founded in Bologna in 1914 and based in Modena for over 80 years, has built its identity around racing, grand touring, and quintessentially Italian refinement. Bianchet, based in Neuch\u00e2tel with its workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, designs its watches with a focus on proportion, inspired in particular by the principles of the golden ratio. <\/p>\n\n

The UltraFino Maserati stems precisely from this shared design language: an obsession with weight, lines, and structure. The watch draws direct inspiration from the Maserati MCPURA, a supercar unveiled at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed and manufactured in Modena. Equipped with a 630 ch twin-turbo Nettuno V6 engine and built around a carbon-fiber monocoque, the MCPURA accelerates from 0 to 100 km\/h in less than 2.9 seconds. But this figure, spectacular as it may seem, speaks to one thing above all: here, performance is a matter of balance, rigidity, materials, and mastery of motion. <\/p>\n\n

This connection is evident in the details. The UltraFino\u2019s openworked skeleton dial echoes the visual language of the MCPURA\u2019s \u201cbirdcage\u201d wheels, with their triple-spoke design evoking the Trident motif. The AI Aqua Rainbow finish, also unveiled on the supercar, lends the dial a prismatic, almost iridescent depth, like a car body captured at the precise moment when light glides over its curves. The Grade 5 titanium bridges and mainplate, along with the high-density carbon case and bracelet, match the rigidity of the MCPURA\u2019s chassis. As for the open, suspended flying tourbillon cage, it evokes the beating heart of the Nettuno engine. <\/p>\n\n

The parallel could have remained purely aesthetic. It becomes more interesting when it comes to durability. Just as the MCPURA uses its chassis to absorb stress and ensure rigidity, the UltraFino Maserati tackles a similar challenge in the world of watchmaking. Its movement incorporates shock-resistant features capable of withstanding forces of 5,000 G. In a watch this thin, this specification is not merely technical: it is part of an engineering narrative\u2014that of an object that combines visual delicacy with mechanical endurance. <\/p>\n\n

At the heart of the timepiece lies the Bianchet UT01 caliber, a fully hand-finished automatic flying tourbillon: sandblasted, satin-finished, polished, and beveled. Its thickness of 3.85 mm demands extreme precision. The suspended barrel eliminates the traditional ratchet wheel and provides a 60-hour power reserve. The 2.66-mm-high tourbillon cage houses a variable-inertia balance wheel beating at 3 Hz. The movement comprises 225 components and 29 jewels, housed in a 9.9-mm-thick case. <\/p>\n\n

The case, made of high-density carbon fiber and vulcanized rubber, measures 40 mm by 47.39 mm. It features a protected crown, anti-reflective sapphire crystals, and is water-resistant up to 5 ATM. Two strap options are available: an integrated carbon fiber strap and a natural rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp. Without the strap, the watch weighs just 36 grams. This lightness is undoubtedly one of the most consistent aspects of the design: the UltraFino Maserati does not seek to impress with its weight, but rather with the tension between power and finesse. <\/p>\n\n

Cristiano Fiorio, Maserati\u2019s marketing director, sums up the spirit of the project by referring to objects where \u201ciconic design, elegance, and performance coexist in perfect harmony.\u201d Rodolfo Festa Bianchet, founder and CEO of Bianchet, adds: \u201cUltraFino Maserati is not a watch inspired by a car. It is the meeting of two objects that speak the same language. \u201d This sentence captures the essence of it all. The danger with automotive watches is that they often fall into the trap of literal imitation: gauges, decorative carbon fiber, body colors, and overly prominent badges. Here, the ambition is more subtle: to convey a philosophy rather than a dashboard.\u201d <\/p>\n\n

UltraFino Maserati thus belongs to that rare category of hybrid objects in which the automotive and watchmaking worlds share not only a clientele, but also a culture of precision. In both worlds, everything hinges on a few millimeters, a few grams, and a few invisible forces of resistance. In both cases, emotion arises from an almost excessive precision. And in both cases, beauty is convincing only when it seems necessary. <\/p>\n\n

With this limited edition of 100 pieces, crafted at the Bianchet workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds in accordance with Swiss Made standards, Maserati celebrates the centennial of its Trident without excessive nostalgia. Rather than looking solely to its archives, the brand has chosen to reinterpret its symbol in a contemporary piece of fine watchmaking that is sporty, sculptural, and almost elusive. A watch like a supercar condensed onto the wrist: lightweight, responsive, and technical, yet never lacking in grace. <\/p>\n\n
