It is about understanding why the body gradually loses its ability to stay healthy. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a discussion on longevity research, Joanne Mannick highlighted a reality often obscured by wellness marketing: Today, no supplement, peptide, or protocol sold to the general public has been rigorously proven to extend life expectancy or healthy life span in humans.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The only combination whose effectiveness remains well-documented is, surprisingly, a classic one: regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and quality sleep.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For researchers, the real issue lies elsewhere.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we age, the body seems to lose a kind of biological reserve\u2014a capacity for resilience that, when we are young, allows it to compensate for certain genetic abnormalities or cellular damage. This \u201cbuffer capacity\u201d is still not fully understood, but it is one of the main areas of research in longevity medicine. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This hypothesis has led scientists to investigate a fascinating phenomenon. When a sperm cell and an egg cell that are several decades old give rise to a child, their biological age appears to be reset. The embryo starts from scratch.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the heart of this mechanism are the famous Yamanaka factors, discovered by Japanese biologist Shinya Yamanaka. Under certain experimental conditions, these proteins are capable of reprogramming aging cells and restoring certain characteristics of youth to them. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea sounds like science fiction. Yet the first clinical trials have already begun. A study conducted by Life Biosciences is currently exploring the use of this approach in the treatment of glaucoma to restore certain visual functions.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are still a long way from a therapy capable of reversing human aging across the board. The biological risks remain significant, and our understanding of the mechanisms involved is still incomplete. But research has moved beyond the realm of theory.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artificial intelligence now plays a central role in this acceleration.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given the immense complexity of biological data, researchers use models capable of analyzing billions of data points from cells, animal experiments, and human studies. At Altos Labs, specialized teams are even developing virtual cell models designed to identify the most promising therapeutic targets. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The goal is not to create an immortal humanity.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first goal seems much more pragmatic: to delay the onset of age-related diseases such as Alzheimer&#8217;s, cardiovascular diseases, and certain metabolic disorders.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a treatment could simply delay the onset of Alzheimer\u2019s disease by a few years, the economic impact would be considerable. In many countries, an aging population is already placing increasing pressure on healthcare systems. Longevity thus appears less as a luxury market and more as a public health necessity.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nevertheless, the industry is still in its infancy. There will be many setbacks. Clinical trials will take time. Investors will have to accept a development timeline measured in decades rather than quarters.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nevertheless, a consensus seems to be emerging within the scientific community: the next major medical breakthrough may not be a treatment for a specific disease, but rather a better understanding of the fundamental mechanisms of aging itself.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The coming decade will determine whether this insight can become a clinical reality.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At Altos Labs, the question is no longer how to extend life at any cost.
