Since shaded dials returned to the Rolex catalog in 2019, each variation has retained some element of a mixed construction. The Datejust 41 introduced in 2026 breaks with this tradition: its green dial is made entirely through a lacquering process, without any other color base. This distinction in the manufacturing process is mentioned only briefly in the report, but it involves the entire dial production chain. <\/p>\n\n

Color as a Technical Gesture.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

The process takes place in two stages. First, the background of the dial is coated with a layer of green lacquer. Then black lacquer is sprayed in concentric circles, gradually building up to create the gradient that shades the outer edge. This follows the same principle as the other shaded dials in the catalog\u2014but here it is applied to a base that is itself lacquered, rather than to bare metal or a differently treated material. The visual result: the white markings stand out in sharp contrast against the intermediate green background, where the gradient does not reach them. <\/p>\n\n

The hour markers and hands are made of 18-karat white gold with a long-lasting blue Chromalight treatment. The bezel is fluted and also made of white gold\u2014a configuration known as \u201cRolesor Gray,\u201d which combines Oystersteel for the case middle and white gold for the applied elements. The case measures 41 mm in diameter and 11.60 mm in thickness; the lug width is 21 mm. Water resistance is guaranteed to 100 meters, and the watch features a screw-down Twinlock crown with double sealing. <\/p>\n\n

The movement beneath the dial.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

The 3235 caliber is not a new release for 2026. Developed and manufactured by Rolex, it beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour, offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, and features the Chronergy escapement made of paramagnetic nickel-phosphorus. The blue Parachrom hairspring, made of a paramagnetic alloy, features the Rolex terminal curve to ensure consistent timekeeping in all positions. Precision adjustment is achieved via four gold Microstella nuts on the variable-inertia balance wheel. Specified tolerance: \u20132\/+2 seconds per day on the finished watch\u2014a deviation that does not correspond to the official chronometer standard, but to Rolex\u2019s internal protocol tested after assembly. In 2026, the Superlative Chronometer certification was expanded to include three new criteria: resistance to magnetism, reliability, and durability. <\/p>\n\n

The Datejust has been around since 1945. When it was launched, it was the first wristwatch to combine automatic winding, water resistance, chronometer certification, and a date display in a window. What Rolex revamped in 2026 was the surface\u2014literally.
