Nineteen years after its launch, Rolex’s Yacht-Master II is rebuilt around a design decision that calls into question one of its best-known features: the Ring Command system, which coupled the rotating bezel to countdown programming, is gone. What remains is more legible, more direct – and perhaps more honest. <\/p>\n\n

Regatta instrument. A mechanical memory system. <\/em><\/p>\n\n

The caliber 4162, developed exclusively for this watch and unveiled in 2026, incorporates a patented programming mechanism driven entirely by the two winch-shaped lateral pushers. The minute hand moves up a notch each time the lower pusher is pressed – up to ten minutes can be programmed, the duration of which is stored in a mechanical memory to avoid reprogramming between two regatta rounds. In-flight synchronization, on the other hand, is triggered by a single press: the central seconds hand resets to zero and starts again as soon as the pusher is released, while the minutes hand automatically resets to the nearest minute. <\/p>\n\n

Another noteworthy decision: the countdown hands turn counter-clockwise – a first for a Rolex movement. The logic is functional. A decreasing countdown can be read more naturally when the hand returns to zero, rather than progressing towards it. <\/p>\n\n

What the movement has in its belly.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

Caliber 4162 oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Its patented Chronergy escapement uses an anchor and wheel made of paramagnetic nickel-phosphorus – a material that neutralizes the influence of high magnetic fields without the need for shielding. The blue Parachrom balance-spring, made from a paramagnetic alloy developed by Rolex, offers greater shock resistance than conventional steel balance-springs, as well as enhanced thermal stability. Running result: -2\/+2 seconds per day on finished watch – a much tighter tolerance than the official chronometer certification. Power reserve: approx. 72 hours. The bridges bear the C\u00f4tes de Gen\u00e8ve Rolex decoration, a reinterpretation of the traditional finish with a fine polished groove between each rib. <\/p>\n\n

Detail<\/strong> – The blue ceramic Cerachrom bezel features recessed graduations and numerals, colored by platinum or yellow gold PVD coating. The ceramic, produced in-house by Rolex, is inert to chemical agents and resistant to surface scratches. The disc is monobloc. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n

The Oyster case measures 44 mm in diameter and 13.90 mm thick, and the Triplock winding crown ensures water resistance to 100 meters. The steel Oystersteel version (ref. 126680) and the 18 ct yellow gold version (ref. 126688) share the same caliber, dimensions and blue bezel – only the case material and finishing details distinguish them.<\/p>\n\n

In 2026, Superlative Chronometer certification includes three new criteria: resistance to magnetism, reliability and durability. They complete the 2015 protocol and are tested on the finished watch, not just the movement. <\/p>\n\n

What changes fundamentally with this Yacht-Master II is the hierarchy of interfaces. The Ring Command was an elegant solution – a bezel that both programmed and measured. The new push-buttons are less spectacular to explain. They can, however, be operated with one hand, without taking your eyes off the starting line. <\/p>\n\n
