Elsa Schiaparelli has always been inspired by her childhood memories and her many travels around the world. Born and raised in Rome’s Palazzo Corsini, she grew up surrounded by majestic palm trees. At the age of 13, she visited Tunisia for the first time, accompanied by her father. Years later, she had a revelation when she discovered Hammamet. The light, atmosphere and exotic nature of this village on the shore opposite Sicily so captivated her cosmopolitan personality that she bought a house there, a miniature replica of Dar Sebastian<\/em>. <\/p>\n

Elsa Schiaparelli’s fertile imagination fused these anecdotes to give birth to this golden palm<\/em> embroidery developed with Lesage. The original black wool jacket became a bestseller in the Winter 1936 collection. Marlene Dietrich ordered one, while illustrator Francis Marshall immortalized Elsa Schiaparelli wearing her own jacket (now part of the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Fine Arts).
