Ch\u00e2teau de Pibarnon’s 2014 red reveals itself to connoisseurs. A great Bandol in keeping with the precise style of this emblematic estate. Located on the heights of La Cadi\u00e8re d’Azur, just a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean, in a natural setting of outstanding beauty, the Pibarnon vineyard is exceptional. <\/h5>\n
Predisposed to excellence, the terroir of Pibarnon is perfectly interpreted by Eric de Saint Victor, who brings out all its quintessence in his great wines, renowned the world over for their finesse, complexity and elegance. From one vintage to the next, wine-lovers are treated to Pibarnon’s inimitable style based on complexity, depth and elegance. The 2014 vintage is a fine illustration of this. <\/h5>\n
On the face of it, it’s a rather mild year, with little heat and perfectly regulated water levels. We’re therefore looking forward to the rather late ripening with equanimity. In reality, this vintage is earlier than we imagined: El Nino has woken up. Beautiful ripeness and tannins are to be found earlier than expected. <\/h5>\n
The 2014 red is similar in style and finesse to the delicious 2000, or the profound 2004. It’s concentrated without excess, straightforward, suave, dense, its ripe tannins juicy and giving it magnificent length. It’s already full of youthful, complex bouquets, combining black fruits and sweet spices. Mourv\u00e8dre in all its splendor, bursting (Eric insists) with energy and bounce. From a selection of 25 hectares of terraced vines planted on high slopes, Ch\u00e2teau de Pibarnon’s red is a blend of 90% Mourv\u00e8dre and 10% Grenache. After lengthy vinification, gentle punching of the cap and a long vatting period (around 3 weeks), it is aged in Austrian oak tuns for 20 months. <\/h5>\n
This 2014 red from Ch\u00e2teau de Pibarnon is a perfect match for prime rib with pepper, venison fillet with porcini mushrooms, duck with blood, saddle of lamb or any dish from the Mediterranean repertoire. For purists, a thrush, calf’s liver or suckling pig will make it vibrate with brilliance and distinction.
