Until September 16, the garden at the Mandarin Oriental, Paris<\/a> will be decked out in the colors of Tanqueray gin, with a new cocktail menu on the Bar 8<\/a> terrace and a monumental plant composition created by landscape designer Christophe Gautrand: The Red Garden<\/em>. This dialogue between the Parisian Palace, the Tanqueray brand, a benchmark in the world of gins since 1830, and Christophe Gautrand will be one of the highlights of Paris Design Week<\/em> from September 8 to 16. We were lucky enough to spend a suspended moment in this magnificent setting, and warmly recommend that you come and discover the moment. <\/p>\n

Christophe Gautrand imagined an unusual plant installation, subtly blending the elegant, avant-garde world of Tanqueray with Shibari, the Japanese art of roping, to blend seamlessly into the lush, enchanting garden of the Mandarin Oriental, Paris: “For me, the challenge of this project was to combine garden and emotion, to create a garden within the garden. I therefore sought to play on sensuality by creating an artistic installation, rather than working solely with plants as in a traditional garden”.<\/p>\n

\"\" \"\" \"\"A unique artistic experience combining masterful technique and luxuriant nature, the trunk of a tree will be suspended above the garden’s water mirror, supported by dozens of ropes, recalling Shibari, an ancestral Japanese martial art designed to immobilize samurai. For the keen observer, this suspended tree will subtly echo elements of the Tanqueray brand, its coloured bark partially covered with broken bottles. <\/p>\n

Christophe Gautrand brings an innovative dimension to the garden, playing on symbols, textures and materials: “To create this artistic installation, I chose a plane tree, a species widely found in the streets and parks of Paris. This tree, whose trunk’s asperities are reminiscent of certain parts of the body – a thigh, an arm, a neck, a wrist – and whose bark is reminiscent of the skin, is loaded with interpretations. It subtly appears as a levitating human being on which pieces of glass have been arranged like jewels to dress the naked body. Associated with Shibari, the plane tree also creates a bridge between Eastern and Western culture.<\/p>\n

For the occasion, Christophe Gautrand will also produce a limited edition of Tanqueray n\u00b010 bottles, using the same ropes as those used in the Shibari. These bottles will be used to make cocktails specially designed for this ephemeral space at the Mandarin Oriental, Paris. <\/p>\n

Finally, The Red Garden<\/em> will be an essential stopover at the next edition of Paris Design Week<\/em>, from September 8 to 16, 2017. This event dedicated to lovers of creation and the art of living will be the final bouquet of the ephemeral bar where Christophe Gautrand will enrich his creation with furniture designed in collaboration with designer Marine Peyre. <\/p>\n

The cocktail menu specially created for the occasion by Bar 8’s bartenders was conceived as an extension of the Red Garden<\/em>. Tanqueray London Dry Gin and Tanqueray n\u00b010 will express themselves in a unique way. <\/p>\n
