ST-GERMAIN liqueur was created in 2007 by Rob Cooper, the third generation of an American distilling family. ST-GERMAIN was conceived as a tribute to France, the art deco period and the Roaring Twenties. The name is a reference to the Saint-Germain-des-Pr\u00e9s district, where influential artists of the time enjoyed meeting up. Bought out in 2013 by the Bacardi-Martini group, the teams are committed to respecting the original recipe and manufacturing process (from picking to bottling), while reinforcing quality controls to guarantee a unique flavor and taste year after year. <\/p>\n
THE ORIGINS OF ST-GERMAIN<\/p>\n
The harvest season lasts around three weeks in late Spring, when the fragrance and aroma of the flowers are at their peak. The quality and character of the liqueur depend essentially on the quality and freshness of the flowers harvested, so particular care is taken when picking. Elderflowers are wild and not industrially cultivated. They grow naturally in mountainous and pre-mountainous areas of Europe, at altitudes of around 800 to 1,000 meters, where the temperate climate is more conducive to their development. Originally, elderflowers were harvested by bicycle. Although this is no longer the case today, it is a symbol that the brand wished to retain on its bottle label to underline the traditional and authentic nature of the harvest. If the flower is damaged during picking or transport, its aroma and flavour may be altered, and the quality of the infusion obtained will be diminished. Only those in perfect condition are selected for maceration, which takes place in a place very close to the collection site, to avoid wilting and damage during the journey. They are weighed to ensure the right quantity of flowers in relation to the volume of water, and to obtain the desired level of concentration. Over 1,000 elderflowers are needed to produce a 70cl bottle! The fresh flowers are then sorted, selected and weighed, and left to macerate in hot water maintained at a constant temperature for several hours. It’s a traditional process, but one that takes great care to guarantee the final quality. After settling, the resulting 100% natural solution is filtered and transported in refrigerated trucks to the manufacturing plant in the small southern French village of Beaucaire. There, it is blended according to a unique recipe with wine brandy and just enough sugar to enhance its flowery fragrance. No artificial flavors or components are added, and the resulting liqueur is made from entirely natural ingredients. After the infusion, it takes around 3 weeks to obtain the final ST-GERMAIN liqueur. <\/p>\n
