Jumi\u00e8ges Abbey, one of the oldest Benedictine abbeys in Normandy, continues to shine with its contemporary art exhibitions. Whether it’s an avant-garde theme or an innovative approach to a classic subject, each presentation captures attention. This summer, Portrait de la France en Vacances 1936-2016, is part of the Normandie Impressionniste Festival program devoted to portraiture. In partnership with the Magnum Agency, four photographers are highlighted. Henri Cartier Bresson, Guy Le Guerrec, Harry Gruyaert and Martin Parr reveal their perceptions. With efficiency, poetry and humor, each captures the unspeakable and transcribes it in his or her own way. These ‘stolen’ moments, like asides, transcribe fleeting sensations of joy and pleasure. <\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Campsite.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Like snapshots, they facilitate immersion in an unfamiliar and sometimes universal everyday life. Each shot is an invitation to idleness and spontaneity. In the background, French history is put into perspective, with a reminder of the first paid vacations (Cartier Bresson) and a significant evolution in customs. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Singularity, diverse conceptions of the notion of relaxation, the whole seems to be a hymn to physical and mental escape. A fantastic epic, dreamt or lived… <\/strong><\/p>\n
