Du point \u00e0 l’univers 2003 is an exceptional tasting experience of the 2003 vintage. It celebrates the richness and diversity of Nature: Krug Clos du Mesnil 2003, the purity of Chardonnay from a single walled plot; Krug 2003, the unexpected finesse and freshness of the 2003 vintage; and Krug Grande Cuv\u00e9e, the richest expression of Krug Champagne, blended from over 120 wines from ten different years, the oldest dating back to 1988. It takes more than 20 years to make a bottle of Krug Grande Cuv\u00e9e. <\/p>\n

THE YEAR 2003<\/strong><\/p>\n

“2003 was a unique year under particularly difficult circumstances, an eventful year for Champagne”<\/em>

2003 was a year of singular circumstances: a dry winter and spring, very early flowering, two severe frosts which caused major losses of Chardonnay, and a scorching summer with record temperatures in August approaching 28.5\u00b0C – more than 10\u00b0C above seasonal averages.<\/p>\n

“At the end of the harvest, we had small yields, healthy grapes and extremely varied degrees of ripeness, with some fruit over- or under-ripe, and some vines having stopped ripening in a reflex to protect themselves from the heat. This is the beauty and power of nature. Respect for the individuality of each plot has enabled us to identify particular aromas in some of them. Through the winemaking process, following each parcel one by one, we discovered some very fine wines, with surprising balance, freshness and aromatic expression.”<\/em> continues Eric Lebel.<\/p>\n
