The design, development and production of made-to-measure frames have been part of Lissac’s specific expertise for over 85 years. New for 2014: Lissac is taking the lead and extending the concept of customized manufacturing to its outlets by equipping them with 3D printers.
\nSince 2011, the Mezzanine area of the Lissac store on Rue Auber has been offering its customers the design and manufacture of fully customized optical or sunglasses. This year, the brand is extending this expertise to include the creation of fully customized frames using 3D printing technology. Developed exclusively for the brand, this process dramatically reduces the time needed to produce the prototype, on the basis of which the final frame will be made according to the recommendations of in-house designer Damien Fourgeaud. Eventually, the brand will offer this service in all its stores, starting at 520 euros. <\/p>\n

\nIt all starts with the eyewear drawing, created and then digitized by designer Damien Fourgeaud, based on the customer’s in-store choices, under the guidance of the optician. The 3D printer is then used to rapidly produce an extremely precise prototype, scaled to 1\/1 for volume testing and in augmented reality thanks to the 3D visualization tool from Lissac partner Fitting Box. This powerful software enables the wearer to visualize the future frame on his or her own face, with online access for friends and family. Once the frame has been tested and approved by the customer, the final production process begins. Less than 3 weeks are needed to produce a unique, fully customized product. <\/p>\n
\nOffering custom frames is one of Lissac’s specialties. Its ability to offer medical optical equipment adapted to people with deformities has been one of its strong points for 85 years. Today, Lissac’s technical specificity has found a new field of application thanks to the emergence of new 3D technologies. And it gives the brand the ability to respond to the need for personalization, which is a fundamental trend in consumer goods markets. <\/p>\n
\nAll stages of the prototype’s design and manufacture are carried out locally, as is the assembly of the final glasses, which is carried out manually and 100% made in France (Clamart). Until now, the use of 3D printing has been limited due to its cost, but it has considerably simplified production stages. It also encourages the relocation of production, thereby helping to reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
