After a swim in a natural spring, visit the town of Celest\u00fan, an authentic fishing village almost frozen in time. <\/p>\n

HACIENDA UAYAMON<\/p>\n

To relax, head for the hacienda Uayam\u00f3n to the south-east of Campeche. Horseback rides can be organized from the Hacienda, as can expeditions with an archaeologist specializing in the Mayan world, to discover the many remains in the area. Finally, to relax after a long expedition, what could be better than a massage outdoors or in the magnificent Hacienda Spa, with expert therapists and natural products made from the estate’s own plants? The site is also steeped in history, as evidenced by its chapel, which has remained in its original state. The swimming pool is a perfect illustration, spectacularly set within the stone walls of the original building. In the rooms, the hammocks are woven from typical Yucatan cotton. You really feel at one with nature. As for the restaurant’s chef, Juan Carlos Sanchez, he marries Campeche specialities with European flavours to perfection. <\/p>\n

CAMPECHE<\/p>\n

This fascinating town is built on the ruins of a Mayan city. For centuries, it was one of Mexico’s most important ports and a frequent target for pirates. This explains its enormous wall, parts of which are still standing. Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Campeche is home to museums, magnificent churches and colorful colonial buildings. <\/p>\n
