Producing a book devoted to Picasso is no easy task. When Olivier Picasso welcomes us to his Place Vend\u00f4me offices, he points out that 4,000 books have already been dedicated to the Spanish painter. With his sparkling eyes and charming smile, Olivier’s family resemblance to his grandfather is undeniable.
\nThe book project he has just published is particularly close to his heart. It’s the result of several years’ work “at the crossroads of man and artist”, he begins! It brings together works of art and family photos. Olivier Picasso wanted to approach the work in a personal way. In all, there are over 150 meticulously selected photographs in the book. When I ask him about his heritage, Olivier has a beautiful phrase:“Picasso belongs a little to the family and a lot to the public<\/em>“.
\nIn this book, an entire chapter is devoted to women. Marie-Th\u00e9r\u00e8se Walter, Olivier’s grandmother, is present. Olivier maintains good relations with the other members of the family. <\/span><\/p>\n

Since childhood, he has always grown up with his grandfather’s paintings on the walls. Olivier was ten when the master died. So he has few memories. Especially since Picasso was a recluse in his studio at the end of his life. So he has the image of a“distant man<\/em>”
\nWith Olivier, we also talk about the formidable artistic and financial legacy he leaves behind. Money is also a theme in the book. Part of this legacy can be found in the Mus\u00e9e Picasso, which is due to reopen in June 2014. It will double in size.
\nThe painter’s rights are managed by the Picasso Administration. Olivier Picasso was one of those who negotiated the contract with Citro\u00ebn in 1998. He tells me that this partnership will continue until 2020. As far as the art market is concerned, he is truly surprised by the astronomical sums in circulation, which are sometimes unreasonable.
\nToday, Olivier Picasso is a fulfilled man who works mainly as a TV producer. He is currently working on two documentaries: “Picasso, l’inventaire d’une vie” and “Le grand mus\u00e9e Picasso”. When I ask Olivier Picasso which artist most closely follows in the painter’s footsteps, he quickly replies Basquiat. The painter’s grandson is teeming with projects and, like his illustrious heir, is a hard worker. He will never cease to keep the artist’s flame alive. It was a pleasure to read this rich, well-documented book, with its clear, accessible and superbly illustrated text. <\/span><\/p>\n
