Grand Mayne is undoubtedly one of Saint-Emilion’s historic estates, as evidenced by the Ch\u00e2teau’s elegant 16th-century fa\u00e7ade. Located to the west of the town of Saint-Emilion, Ch\u00e2teau Grand Mayne, which covered 100 hectares in the 18th century, now extends over 17 hectares. Since 1934, the Nony family has presided over the destiny of this beautiful estate. After Jean, Jean-Pierre and his wife Fran\u00e7oise, it’s now the turn of the third generation with Jean-Antoine to continue and perpetuate the family tradition! <\/h5>\n
After an exceptionally mild start to the 2014 season, which favored early budburst, the cool, wet weather of spring and then summer 2014 returned the sliders to normal. Perseverance and vigilance until the end of August were clearly rewarded by exceptional conditions from late August to early October. The very dry conditions at that time finally allowed water constraints to appear, saving the 2014 harvest. Patience was required to wait for the grapes to reach perfect ripeness in the vineyard. Ch\u00e2teau Grand Mayne 2014 is a blend of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Located 1.5 km west of Saint-Emilion, the 35-year-old vines are planted on a clay-limestone terroir, with clay to the south and sand over clay to the west. After vinification in temperature-controlled wood and stainless steel vats, the harvest is aged for 18 months in wooden barrels (70% new, 30% 1 year old). Ch\u00e2teau Grand Mayne 2014 is Louis Mitjavile’s first vintage as technical consultant to Michel Rolland. <\/h5>\n
Ch\u00e2teau Grand Mayne 2014 has a beautiful color. On the nose, this vintage reveals aromas of fresh fruit, blackcurrant and raspberry, accompanied by soft notes of fine, elegant oak. The palate reveals a fine balance between density and ripe fruit aromas. The finish is long and fresh, with hints of graphite that augur well for the future. <\/h5>\n
