CHRISTIAN DADA presents its Fall-Winter 2018 collection “SPIRALE” at the HALLE DES BLANCS MANTEAUX on January 21, 2018 at Paris Fashion Week Homme.
\nThe spiral as a symbol of change and evolution, this notion of movement and transformation into something new as a starting point. A theme directly inspired by a quote from David Lynch: “The spiral is a circle moving upwards, representing evolution.”
\nThe American artist’s work initiated many of the collection’s striking motifs: a pattern of red roses embroidered on satin jackets or knitted onto sweaters echoes the graphic design of a poster from the film Blue Velvet. Always developing a personal aesthetic vocabulary, Masanori Morikawa mixes Asian wardrobe influences with Western wardrobe classics. Suit jackets are cut with kimono collars and wide pants drape over the front in an elegant gesture of ethnic chic.
\nOther Japanese references are luxuriously crafted, such as traditional kimono fabrics hand-woven in Kyoto using motifs from David Lynch’s painting “Spiral”, or patchworks of indigo fabrics made entirely by hand to imitate rare ancient Boro fabrics.
\nThe idea of the spiral is retranscribed in the very structure of the garments, whose details echo the movement of rotation, creating the effect of a glide over the body. Evocations of the passage of time materialize in the many patina effects achieved by elaborate finishes, illustrating the evolution interpreted by Morikawa.
\nNew collaborations with Italian sportswear brand Kappa and American label Dickies are unveiled for the first time for Autumn-Winter 2018. Mirrored silhouettes of Kappa’s<\/p>\n
logo, here echoing the Eastern philosophy of Ying and Yang, run across tracksuits and the sleeves of jackets and t-shirts.
