\n<\/span>South of Strasbourg, the Mus\u00e9e W\u00fcrth d’Erstein – with its fine collection of modern and contemporary art – is the poetic setting for the international piano festival that bears its name, created in 2016 by Marie-France Bertrand, the museum’s director, and pianist Vincent Larderet, the festival’s artistic director. In just two years, the event has become a favorite stopover for renowned soloists and young talent alike, who each autumn enjoy its unique acoustics, just a stone’s throw from Germany. <\/span>

\n<\/span>THE W\u00dcRTH ERSTEIN MUSEUM, A CULTURAL MECCA<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>For DIY enthusiasts, the name W\u00fcrth will conjure up images of world-renowned screws and fastening materials. For others, it’s the success story of a 19-year-old who took over his father’s modest business, now a veritable industrial empire. W\u00fcrth also shines in the form of a rich collection of 17,000 works, paintings and sculptures from the Primitives to the 21st century. German industrialist Reinhold W\u00fcrth, now aged 82, has worked tirelessly since acquiring a watercolour by Emil Nolde in the 1960s to develop this collection and make it accessible to all, not only in places dedicated to the visual arts, but also to literature and music. <\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Since 1991, fifteen W\u00fcrth exhibition centers, or company museums, have sprung up across Europe. The one in Erstein, south of Strasbourg, opened in 2008, is one of the three largest. Its three halls can accommodate temporary exhibitions on a variety of themes. <\/span>
\n<\/span>Located at the heart of the museum, a 224-seat auditorium hosts a rich cultural program that resonates with the collection: theater, classical music, songs, shows for young audiences, lectures and workshops.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>“We’re not just a cube containing an exhibition of paintings and sculptures. We want to build bridges, establish correspondences. When I invited Vincent Larderet in 2014, we saw that we could do something on a larger scale.”<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Thus was born the autumn festival Piano au Mus\u00e9e W\u00fcrth, whose key words are mixity and conviviality. The specifications are simple: program pianists of international renown, but also young talents and artists from the region. <\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>A FESTIVAL LIKE NO OTHER<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>An atypical pianist, Vincent Larderet sets the tone for the festival with his eclectic and passionate choices, while following the three axes defined by the museum: great international soloists, young talents and renowned artists from the Alsace region, and an educational dimension (Master classes, collaboration with international competitions and the “Special Piano Prize at the W\u00fcrth Museum”).<\/span>
\n<\/span>In keeping with his career, which began abroad at a very early age, Vincent Larderet has chosen an international program, highlighting the different approaches implied by the piano traditions of the various countries and artists invited.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>Vincent Larderet, both pianist and artistic director of the festival, is inspired by the need to combat the standardization of repertoires. The repertoires covered during these ten days of piano at the museum draw on the immensity and diversity of the piano oeuvre. Emblematic masterpieces by Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Faur\u00e9, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann, Prokofiev and Rachmaninov find their place alongside lesser-known gems. In view of the fiftieth anniversary of their deaths in 1937, Ravel and Szymanowski will be particularly celebrated, in solo, duo and trio performances on Friday November 17, and in Ewa Osi\u0144ska’s recital. <\/span>

\n<\/span>Guest artists include international greats such as pianists Philippe Bianconi, Nelson Goerner, Herbert Schuch, Peter Laul, Vadym Kholodenko, Vincent Larderet and Ewa Osi\u0144ska, who will share the Steinway keyboard in the museum’s auditorium with sultry young talents such as Ana Kipiani. The piano will also be jazz and Swiss for a session with the Colin Vallon Trio. <\/span><\/p>\n
