Whether it is a gastronomic event, a major sports tournament or a classical music festival, there is something for every taste and every age. Summer 2016 is no exception, with a host of new features.
\nThe Saveurs Gstaad festival goes year-round!
\nFollowing the success of the “Saveurs Gstaad” Week of Taste every summer for the past 20 years, the gastronomic festival will now be held year-round. This new concept aims to awaken and surprise the taste buds of the finest gourmets. On this summer’s menu, Gstaad suggests:
\n– for starters, a short MOB train journey from Gstaad to Montreux, then on to Caux to visit Claude Nobs’ “Ch\u00e2let Picotin”, where travelers can sample some of the region’s specialties.
\n– For the main course: a lunch at the Alp Z\u00fcneweid, prepared by Chef Franz Wiget, recognized by 2 Michelin stars and 18 Gault & Millau points, to enjoy a spectacular view of Lauenen, the Wildhorn and Glacier 3000.
\n– For dessert: a Mediterranean cooking class, given by the Chef of Basta by Dalsass, followed by a small classical music concert at St. Mary’s Chapel. St. Niklaus, in the pedestrian center of Gstaad. Tasting and listening pleasure guaranteed.

\nThe tenniswomen in the spotlight!
\nFor 100 years, Gstaad has hosted the famous Swiss Open Gstaad tennis event in July. But this year, Saanenland has decided to put women players back in the spotlight – after a 33-year absence – by launching the Ladies Championship Gstaad, in partnership with Grand Chelem Event. This new tournament, which will be held on clay from July 9 to 17, will be part of the WTA Tour and will be immediately followed by the traditional men’s competition, the J.Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad, from July 16 to 24. Thus, Gstaad becomes the Swiss capital of tennis and has never better lived up to its nickname of “Wimbledon of the Alps”. Game, set & match!

\n2016 is an important year for the world of classical music in Switzerland, it represents both the 60th anniversary of the Gstaad Menuhin Festival & Academy and the centenary of its founding father, the great Yehudi Menuhin. The event will take place from July 14 to September 3, with a high-flying program: the Lab\u00e8que sisters, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Fazil Say… and many others. Numerous artists have decided to pay tribute to Lord Menuhin, including violinists Daniel Hope and Andras Schiff, but the two key dates that music lovers can’t miss are :
\n– August 7, an evening featuring the legendary 1929 Berlin concert, where the young Menuhin put on an exceptional performance, playing Bach, Beethoven and Brahms on the same evening
\n– September 3, with the final “Happy Happy Birthday Yehudi” concert in the Gstaad Tent
