It’s the end of an era at Louis Vuitton: after 16 years with the brand, Marc Jacobs is leaving LVMH’s flagship brand to focus on his brand’s IPO (source WWD).<\/p>\n

Rumors of the star artistic director’s departure had been swirling for some time in the small fashion sphere. The doubts were confirmed by the pessimism and sadness of the Spring\/Summer 2014 collection presented this morning in the courtyard of the Louvre on the last day of Paris Fashion Week. A black invitation, and an extremely somber decor echoing all the old elements of previous shows (a carousel, a fountain, elevators, the famous escalators, a corridor of doors and a clock recalling the departure of the Vuitton train). <\/p>\n

Even the collection itself seemed marked by the spirit of mourning for an era that changed Louis Vuitton’s image by dusting it off. Sadness was present from start to finish, even during Marc Jacobs’ smiling salute. <\/p>\n

After his departure from Balenciaga, there are already whispers that Nicolas Ghesqui\u00e8re could take over the reins at Louis Vuitton, to be continued…<\/p>\n
