To celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first whisky, the Breton distillery Warenghem unveils an impetuous, gourmet single cask in a limited edition.<\/p>\n

It was in Lannion in 1900 that L\u00e9on Warenghem chose to set up the small distillery that still bears his name today. A native of Nord-Pas de Calais and a great lover of Brittany, L\u00e9on Warenghem distinguished himself by creating Elixir d’Armorique with 35 plants. Before the war, his son Henri diversified the family business by making liqueurs. Each generation has endeavored to carry on the founder’s work with innovations and spirits that reflect their deep Breton roots. In 1987, 4th-generation Gilles Leizour, a pharmacist by training, produced the first whisky from Brittany, WB, a blend of 75% grain and 25% malt, while Armorik, in 1998, was the first single malt distilled in France. In 2012, the first French 10-year-old single malt is released: Armorik 2002.
\nToday, the Warenghem distillery employs 15 people and is a market leader in Brittany and France, thanks to the quality and personality of its spirits. <\/p>\n

\nTo celebrate the 25th anniversary of its first Breton whisky, Warenghem has chosen balance and fullness by launching a 10-year single cask. A dazzling demonstration of its expertise.

\nMade from the finest malted barley, to which is added the crystalline purity of the Rest Avel spring (Breton for “home of the wind”), this version of Armorik was distilled in February 2002 and then housed in exceptional Oloroso sherry casks – 500-liter butts -, giving it its deep color and rich aroma. The first cask in the series, number 3261, was drawn off and bottled in May 2012, at natural strength. Unchill-filtered to preserve its fleshiness and complexity, it is offered to lovers of great single malts in a bottle of only 748, whose label honors Brittany and its symbols. <\/p>\n

An old gold color with light green highlights, Armorik 2002 reveals an intense nose, marked first by notes of smoked bacon and iodine, followed by aromas of lime and baked apple. Its pleasant rusticity is balanced by fresh floral notes of lily. The lively, nervous palate unfurls gourmet flavors of pear and honey, firmed by those of oranges and clementines, before lingering on dried apricot and fresh mint. Beautiful gentian bitters give it just the right amount of restraint before a long, gourmand finish reminiscent of calvados. A harmonious blend of firmness and sweetness. <\/p>\n
