\nOn Friday November 2, 2012, La Compagnie du Rhum will be offering its customers and visitors the most astonishing experience of all: a journey back in time, through years of exceptional harvests, spanning more than a century. This date marks the launch of Saint-James vintage rums, the oldest dating back to 1885.
\nThis Mill\u00e9sime 1885 is one of the oldest rums from the brand, created in 1881. It comes in a square bottle, a shape specific to Saint-James bottles. At the time, the corks were hand-cut and the bottle set with pewter. If it’s rare to find such old vintages in bottles, this one is all the more so as it predates the eruption of Montagne Pel\u00e9e, which completely destroyed Saint-Pierre in 1902. Miraculously stored in one of the metropolitan branches, some precious bottles were saved and returned to the country in perfect condition. Analysis of the glue on the back of the labels, a mixture of water and flour, testifies to a manufacturing process specific to that period, thus certifying their authenticity.
\nSaint-James Vintages from the 1930s are rather difficult to find in good condition, as the quality of the glass is much poorer after the 1929 crisis. On the other hand, when well preserved, the Vintages of these years are surprisingly intense, while retaining a certain warmth softened by the number of years.
\nEach of these rums posted online will reveal tasting notes that have been kept secret for several decades, and of which even the Cellar Master of the House of Saint-James is sometimes unaware. For example, Mill\u00e9sime 1941 will only tell its story to the person who takes possession of it…

\nThe Mus\u00e9e Saint-James in Sainte-Marie has entrusted the exclusive marketing of some of these precious vintages to the e-commerce site La Compagnie du Rhum.com. Until they reach their lucky buyers, these historic rums will remain in the Saint-James Museum cellar, covered in a dust delicately deposited by time. <\/p>\n
