\nThe end of August marks the start of the new literary season. More than 600 novels on the starting line, and a tough task: how to find your way around? One of our favorites is Caroline Vi\u00e9’s first novel.The story begins with a suicide attempt. Not very cheerful, one might think? On the contrary. The tone is often funny, and the author has a wonderful sense of self-mockery and sometimes cynicism. The heroine is a film journalist and mother. She loves her son immensely, but at the same time, she’s a bit of a misanthrope. A kind of weariness reigns in her life.
\nHer life is turned upside down when she meets a slightly overweight French actor and falls under his spell. Selected extract “You’re one of those brioches you eat for a snack, with no other value than that of a gourmet pleasure, no nutritional qualities, empty calories and full shapes. A delight for the eyes, fingers and nostrils, even before you think of sinking your teeth into them”
\nThis encounter will awaken the madness that lies dormant within her. We won’t tell you more to keep the suspense to a minimum….
\nThe book is a good behind-the-scenes look at film promotion, and the first-person narrative is peppered with autobiographical elements, as the author was a film critic for Canal Plus and now for 20 minutes.
