Engrenages season 4: Canal+’s flagship series returns

The main challenge for a series that has become established over time and has many fans, is to last and keep the public interested once again. This new season keeps all its promises and should not disappoint aficionados.
\nFor the uninitiated, it’s worth remembering that Engrenages is a series that shows, with a constant concern for realism, the interweaving of the police and judicial worlds.
\nThe plot of this new season begins with the discovery of a corpse horribly mauled by a homemade bomb. The investigation leads the police through the citizen protest networks that oppose immigration policy and help undocumented immigrants. Soon, Laure Berthaud’s group finds itself up against a number of radical ultra-left activists who advocate urban guerrilla warfare and directly target the police.
\nThe scriptwriters have immersed themselves in current events. We can’t help but see the Tarnac affair and the rise of radical politicized groups in Europe as a source of inspiration. As in previous seasons, numerous parallel plots revolve around this common thread (vicious informers, arms trafficking, the case to destabilize Judge Roban). There are no super-cops here, just men and women with their doubts and anxieties. Caroline Proust is once again excellent in the role of Laure Berthaud, still wandering in her love life and caught up in her job.
\nThe other members of the team are as good as ever, led by Thierry Godard. The second DPJ sees the arrival of a new, rather unsympathetic commissioner who will destabilize the team.The scriptwriters have taken care to keep up with current events, such as the reform of police custody, which authorizes the presence of a lawyer from the start of the hearing.The guest star is former judge Gilbert Thiel, who comes off well.
\nIn short, this new season is as exciting as ever!Another interesting side project: Inside Engrenages. To coincide with the launch of season 4 of Engrenages, Canal+ launched a webseries based on the series’ universe on Monday August 27, entitled “Inside Engrenages”. The channel is offering Internet users the chance to follow a webreporter immersed in an interactive investigation in real time for 7 days, on both its website and social networks. It’s an original storyline, produced with considerable resources for this kind of project. Canal is once again at the cutting edge.
