\"\"<\/a>Optic 2ooo supports research into ocular genetics<\/strong>
\nIn 2012, Optic 2ooo is joining forces with the AFM-T\u00e9l\u00e9thon (Association Fran\u00e7aise contre les Myopathies), in a national and local partnership that will raise almost a million euros over the year to support ocular gene therapy in particular. Optic 2ooo thus becomes a major partner of the Telethon.
\nIn 2011, the AFM raised more than 94 million euros thanks to an exceptional mobilization of the public. This result will enable us to continue our fight at a time when a new era is beginning: that of the development of treatments. The coming years will see the accumulation of proofs of concept, treatments and even cures for more and more diseases. “Thanks to its donors, volunteers and partners, the AFM is writing one of the finest pages in the history of contemporary medicine. I’m delighted that Optic 2ooo is joining us in this wonderful adventure”, says Laurence Tiennot-Herment, President of the AFM.
\nFaithful to its convictions as a civic-minded optician, a privileged witness to this medical and social revolution, Optic 2ooo naturally wanted to make its contribution to a cause closely linked to its business. This partnership is in line with the Group’s resolutely supportive approach
\nOptic 2ooo has already been involved in a number of concrete actions over the past few years, notably its patronage of the Institut de la Vision, one of France’s leading centers for research into ocular pathologies, headed by Professor Sahel. Today, the opticians in the Optic 2ooo network – France’s leading optician with almost 1,200 outlets – are MORE than just eyewear salesmen: as professionals and citizens, they are involved on a daily basis in promoting Vision Solidaire.
\nIn the words of Didier Papaz, CEO of the Optic 2ooo Group, “Thanks to T\u00e9l\u00e9thon donations, the AFM is advancing research and medicine to treat rare diseases. In the field of eyesight, the aim is to combat genetic eye diseases that lead to blindness. We were won over by the association’s challenges. In fact, the therapeutic successes achieved thanks to Telethon donations have made France the world leader in gene therapy.
