Monsieur Boucheron caused a sensation at the time, offering jewelry to courtesans as well as to women of good family. The Chinese cabinet was also used by courtesans, as it had a secret passage allowing them to escape with their unfaithful lovers in the event of chance encounters.

\nThe Countess de Castiglione lived where part of the Maison Boucheron boutique now stands, and it is said that her ghost still haunts the premises.
\nEdith Piaf gave a Boucheron watch to each of her lovers.
