Lush store staff put themselves in a cage to save ducks and geese from unbearable force-feeding<\/strong><\/p>\n

In view of the extended foie gras consumption period and the resulting mortality and mistreatment, Lush Cosm\u00e9tiques, in collaboration with the Stop Gavage association, is launching an impressive campaign to protect ducks and geese.<\/p>\n

In a shocking staging, showing how ducks and geese are deliberately made sick, a brand employee will be locked in a cage and forced to be force-fed, to expose the truth about the cruelty of forced overfeeding. Store staff will hand out a leaflet to passers-by detailing the abominable impact on ducks and geese, and urge them to sign the postcard addressed to the European Commission calling on it to end the practice of force-feeding for foie gras production. <\/p>\n

With the festive season fast approaching, foie gras producers are looking to extend the consumption period for this product.<\/p>\n

For one week, from September 26 to October 1, 2011, Lush stores in France and Belgium will be showcasing this campaign to raise awareness among as many people as possible, with a dedicated window display, a leaflet handed out to everyone AND an unprecedented event.<\/p>\n

Why do Lush employees put themselves in cages to talk about the intolerable gesture on geese and ducks?<\/strong><\/p>\n

75% of the world’s foie gras is produced in France. Over 30 million birds are force-fed each year in France. Most are confined in battery cages so narrow they can barely move. A metal tube is rammed down their throats and into their stomachs. Their livers become enormous. They can hardly breathe. <\/p>\n

Force-feeding is a violation of the most elementary regulations and principles of animal protection. Force-feeding is banned on grounds of cruelty in most European Union countries, and more recently in Israel and California. <\/p>\n

Lush is launching this campaign because protecting animals is ITS most important ethical value, and wants to raise public awareness to take action.<\/p>\n

Lush has created an exclusive product for the event: Fo Gras (face wash). Sold for \u20ac9.95 per 100 grams, all sales (excluding VAT paid to the French state) will be donated to the L214 association to support its Stop Gavage campaign.
