\"Pulp<\/a><\/p>\n

Last night, PULP Magazine<\/a> celebrated the launch of their third issue by throwing an incredible fashion industry launch party in Toronto’s beautiful and historic Distillery District<\/a>. Engine Gallery<\/a> heated up like a sauna jammed packed with fashion insiders. Photographers, stylists, make-up artists, models – some budding, others aspiring, were all there eager to get in on the PULP buzz and swap business cards. Representatives from Hugo Boss<\/a>, InFashion’s<\/em> Glen Baxter, GOTSTYLE’s<\/em> Melissa Austria, Canadian fashion designer David Dixon<\/a>, and many others who had worked with, or were keen on the prospect of working with PULP, all fought the insane Honda Indy induced traffic to get to the party. <\/p>\n

Although this is the magazine’s third issue, it’s their first printed<\/em> issue. PULP is a fully visual fashion magazine that targets fashion insiders as well as creatives in graphic and photography industry. Their focus is on long editorial spreads that push boundaries of fashion, photography, art, design, creative talent\/artists, contemporary culture, beauty, while showcasing fascinating models and their personalities. It’s fashion, but it’s anti-‘fashion’. PULP looks and feels nothing like the high-gloss, high-Photoshop<\/a> consumer-based fashion and lifestyle magazines out there. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it’s refreshing to see a publication that celebrates raw beauty and creative talent. With socially themed issues and pleasantly light on the advertising, PULP has the potential to be what COLORS<\/a> would look like if it did fashion. <\/p>\n

When discussing the third issue’s theme, Editor-in-Chief Juliana Schiavinatto takes inspiration from Jim Morrison stating in her Letter From the Editor, “It was only fitting that the theme for this issue revolved around the word ‘real’. Reality TV, reality stars, reality everything…but what is really ‘real’? Our world is increasingly revolving around ‘reality’ that is, ironically, manufactured for us. Most of us go about life numb, accepting certain rules as the reality for us all. Perhaps, if we challenged our own reality, we would surprise ourselves. If we don’t attempt to shape our own lives, then what is ‘real’ to us might be shaped by others.” Nicely put. <\/p>\n
