The idea of going to the Grand Palais for the Monumenta exhibition, a veritable event in contemporary art, aroused great curiosity. As soon as you enter this work, you find yourself literally sucked in and embarked on a journey where the destination is up to you. Indian-born British sculptor Anis Kapoor has created a bespoke work of art to curl up in the Nave of the Grand Palais. The work is called Leviathan, named after the biblical sea monster.
\nThe work is a huge flesh-red bubble inflated with air. But for the sculptor, “creating emptiness does not lead to emptiness”. This apparent nothingness is also full of optical events, colorful sensations and the tension of our psyche. A sensory and mental journey awaits you. Color also plays a key role. For the artist, “color is at the limit of meaning, a very powerful tool for abstraction”.
\nYou’ll come away from the work completely blown away and a little disconcerted.
\nFor a few weeks, the nave of the Grand Palais will be transformed into an immense museum for a single work.
