What if a stroll through the streets of Manhattan were an opportunity to attend a unique fashion event, to be in the front row of a new kind of fashion show on the other side of the Atlantic? What if this event allowed everyone to attend a parade of urban couture creatures, one where the window mannequin takes center stage? Well, this event exists and is called SIDEWALK CATWALK, but it could well be called De l’Art d’\u00eatre mannequin, or when the window object becomes a work of art… <\/strong><\/p>\n

If you’re in New York this summer, I invite you to come and see a new kind of exhibition between fashion and art until September 06, 2010: the temporary exhibition “Ralph PUCCI’s Manikin models walk New York”.<\/p>\n

COFRAD, Ralph PUCCI’s exclusive manufacturer and distributor for Europe, is collaborating with Ralph PUCCI on the “SIDEWALK CATWALK” project. The aim is to enliven New York’s Broadway district with an exceptional Fashion Parade, combining a fashion event with an artistic installation. <\/p>\n

30 mannequins from the MANIKIN collection, sculpted in fiberglass, will wear garments created specifically by 30 renowned American designers, including Calvin Klein, Diane Von Furstenberg, Mickael Kors, Anna Sui, Betsy Johnson, Tommy Hilfiger, Isabel Toledo, Catherine Malandrino and Donna Karan…<\/p>\n

CHRISTOPHER CIACCIA and ARIEL PENZER<\/p><\/div>\n

The last two models are dressed by design school teams: Christopher Ciaccia and Ariel Penzer, students at the Fashion Institute of Technology, and Emily Saunders and Niyati Karwat, students at Parsons The New School for Design.<\/p>\n

MICKAEL KORS - REBECCA MOSES<\/p><\/div>\n

Sleek and ultra-feminine, these slate-finish fiberglass sculptures are set on concrete bases to withstand the elements. Inspired by the artist Alberto Giacometti, these abstract silhouettes share the New York tarmac with works by English sculptor Antony Gormley. From Time Square to Herald Square, the SIDEWALK CATWALK offers the general public a static parade of the most original creations under the banner of creativity, coupled with a quality art exhibition. <\/p>\n

With their original materials and cuts, the designers and their successors were able to express themselves freely, despite strict specifications.<\/p>\n

Tommy Hilfiger shows its attachment to the Star-Spangled Banner in a flag dress that surrounds the model to the point of hiding her face, as if plastered by the wind: ” She represents THE American Woman par excellence, because she survives the elements. You never know what the weather will be like in New York. <\/em>“.<\/p>\n

This exhibition is a reflection of New York’s liveliness and originality, and above all an opportunity to prove to the world that New York is indeed the city of art and fashion, by showcasing local styling.<\/p>\n
