Haute joaillerie refers to unique creations or very small series, handcrafted by specialized artisans, using top-quality stones and demanding setting techniques. In France, the “Joaillier de France” label distinguishes Jewelry Houses whose production remains localized in France.

Haute joaillerie: techniques and know-how

Invisible setting – stones set without visible claws, a technique patented by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1933. Serti grains – multiple small metal grains hold the stone in place, creating a dense pavé effect. Champlevé enamel – cavities cut into the metal, filled with enamel and then fired. Stone cut – brilliant, emerald, cushion, pear, marquise, oval – each cut reveals the optical properties of the stone in a different way.

Jewelry houses: portraits

Boucheron (1858, Place Vendôme), Van Cleef & Arpels (1906, Place Vendôme), Cartier (1847, Rue de la Paix), Pomellato (1967, Milan), Chopard (1860, Sonvilier), Tiffany & Co. (1837, New York), Graff (1960, London), Harry Winston (1932, New York) – Luxsure documents these Maisons through their techniques, archives and current collections.

Red carpet jewelry: Cannes, Met Gala, Fashion Week

International red carpets have become the most visible showcases for haute joaillerie. Boucheron dresses Pierre Niney at Cannes. Chopard has been an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival since 1998. Tiffany & Co. creates exclusive pieces for American ceremonies.
